SEATTLE - Junior Ben Guidos pitched seven strong innings and Pierce Rankin went 2-for-2 with two walks and a homer as the Washington baseball team picked up its fifth straight win, beating Seattle University, 5-2, Wednesday at Husky Ballpark.

It was the last non-conference game (and final midweek game) of the regular season for the Huskies, who improved to 25-19 on the season. The Redhawks fell to 7-31. The UW won all three meetings this season vs. SeattleU, which revived its baseball program this season.

Guidos, a lefty from Normandy Park, improved to 2-4 with the victory. He allowed two runs on six hits with four strikeouts in his seven-inning outing. Forrest Snow pitched the eighth and Andrew Kittredge worked the ninth to earn his third save.

SU starter Brandon Kizer (1-3) went two and one-third innings in the loss, giving up three runs on four hits.

The Redhawks snagged the early lead with a run in the first as Doug Buser led off with a walk and eventually scored from third on a two-out single from Nate Roberts.

Washington went ahead in the second. After singles from Rankin and Chase Anselment put two aboard, the two Husky runners stole third and second with Rankin scoring as the throw to third sailed high. The next batter, Troy Scott, knocked a double to left to drive in Anselment and then scored himself on a two-out single from David Bentrott to give the UW a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth, the Redhawks picked up a second run when Buser doubled and scored on a two-out single from Bryndon Ecklund.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, Rankin, a junior from Shorecrest High, hit his team-leading eighth homer of the season, a solo shot to left, to get that run back and increase the UW lead to 4-2.

In the seventh, Bradley Boyer led off with a walk and eventually scored on a two-out single from Anselment, who finished the game 2-for-3.

This weekend, the UW hosts UCLA in a three-game series at Husky Ballpark. Friday's first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. Saturday, game time is 2:00 p.m. and, on Sunday, the series wraps up with a 1:00 p.m. game.
