SEATTLE - The Husky baseball program's annual Alumni Weekend is in the books for 2011. The three-day event wrapped up with Sunday evening's alumni game, where the varsity beat the former players, 7-1.
Alumni Weekend opened last Friday with the annual golf tournament at Washington National Golf Course. Saturday featured a tailgate party prior to the UW football team's 31-23 victory over California.
Sunday evening, a big group of alumni came out and took on the current Husky varsity squad. Players from the late 1960s through the 2000s attended and played, with the older alumni taking the first at bats vs. the current Dawgs.
A three-run triple from UW center fielder Caleb Brown was the key hit for the varsity while former Husky infielder Nick Batkoski was the star player for the alumni, finishing with a pair of hits, an RBI and two stolen bases. The night featured an appearance (as a hitter) by former Seattle Mariners pitcher Sean White, as well as a couple of current active professionals in Pierce Rankin (Blue Jays) and Forrest Snow (Mariners).
The UW baseball team continues its fall practice season through mid-October and the Huskies, under third-year head coach Lindsay Meggs open the 2012 season next Feb. 17 at San Diego State.
