SEATTLE - The University of Washington announced today that a promotional campaign for senior quarterback Jake Locker will begin tomorrow, coinciding with the Huskies' season opener at BYU. A website, www.locker10in10.com, promoting the campaign will launch at 10:10 a.m. PST, tomorrow, appropriately.
The campaign is called "Locker 10 in 10" in reference to Locker's jersey number and 2010, his senior season. The campaign aims to generate awareness both of Locker's astounding on-field accomplishments and his significant contributions to the Seattle community and the University of Washington, including his substantial involvement in Touchdowns For Kids. Locker was instrumental in the creation of Touchdowns For Kids, a charity soliciting pledges per touchdown to raise funds for nearby Children's Hospital.
"Jake is truly a one-of-a-kind student athlete and we want to do everything we can to generate awareness of his accomplishments, while remaining authentic to his genuine personality," Shannon Kelly, Associate AD for Marketing and Strategic Programs said. "We hope that the Locker 10 in 10 campaign will serve as a celebration of Jake's senior year and all that he has accomplished at the University of Washington."
The Locker 10 in 10 website features a section called "The Real Jake Locker", which provides an in-depth look at Locker's personality and upbringing in Ferndale, Wash. Additionally, school officials have helped organize citizens of Ferndale in forming a "pen pal" letter-writing charge where Ferndale residents mail weekly handwritten letters highlighting Locker's accomplishments to members of the national media.
