Washington vs. USC Post-Game Quotes
February 18, 2010

Husky Coach Lorenzo Romar
On the comeback:

"I was proud of our guys for fighting back, the ability to fight back and come in and make it a game. But we weren't able to get over the hump.

What if UW had gotten even or got ahead?
"Vucevic hit some monster shots down the stretch and I thought we did a pretty good job of guarding down the stretch. If we get them to miss a couple in crunch time, and get the opportunity to go down and score- water under the bridge now, not a lot we can do about it.

On the play of Matthew Bryan-Amaning:
" He's been consistent; he had another big game - 6 for 7 from the floor and 7 rebounds."

Why they got impatient:
"Well there aren't very many teams that play the way USC does defensively. We're an up-tempo team and tonight we didn't switch gears like we should've when we had to. They pack it in, and they're big, and we're not a great outside shooting team. So if we're not a great outside shooting team and we're going to try to force it early, which was one of the keys to this game- not to force it early. It makes it tough. We're not used to coming down the floor and nothing being there. We have to be able to play better in those situations."

Quincy Pondexter, Washington
"They do a great job of packing it in. They throw different defenders at you, different looks from help side. It's just tough. They really pack it in there and if you aren't hitting your outside shot it makes it really difficult to score against them."

"We just have to bounce back. There's not much you can say but bounce back. We're going to have to play good basketball from now on."

"We created energy off our defense. We really buckled down and got some stops. We sped up the tempo. That's something that we were meaning to do earlier in the game. It's something that we figured out too late how to get them."

"There was that feeling that as we got closer and closer to the end of the game that we would come back and squeak this one out. We didn't get it done. It's tough because we fought really hard and its coming down to the end of the season when you really need wins. It really hurts right now.

Justin Holiday, Washington
"He [Gerrity] was pretty much able to do whatever he wants really. Get into the key and dish off or make the easy bucket. That's pretty much all he did all night. We had problems keeping him in front of us."

USC Coach Kevin O'Neill
"Marcus [Johnson] has been a big time player for us all year. When he came out of the game was when we were having troubles. He is our second best scoring threat, he drives the ball well, and he is our best defender. [Quincy] Pondexter was able to get some things going for their team when he wasn't in there."

"I thought we did a good job of handling their full court press. Our goal was to milk the clock. They were in the bonus, and we weren't even close to being in the bonus. A lot of things were stacked up against us going down the stretch, momentum and foul trouble especially, but our guys fought bravely like they have all year and gave us a chance to win."

"We wanted to have as few possessions as we could coming down the stretch. We had no choice but to milk the clock. Without Marcus [Johnson] in the game we would have come out with bad shots every possession. We shortened the game because that gave us our best chance to win."
