Washington recorded its third straight exhibition victory. In 2004, the Huskies defeated Westmont 92-52; in 2005 they beat Simon Fraser 114-48. The Huskies last lost an exhibition game in 2003, falling 85-76 against Athletes in Action.
The Huskies have won their last six exhibition games against collegiate opponents, recording wins against Seattle Pacific (2000 season), Western Washington (2001), Central Washington (2002), Westmont (2005), Simon Fraser (2006), and St. Martin's (2007).
Freshmen Quincy Pondexter, Adrian Oliver, and Phil Nelson made their collegiate debuts Friday night. Though he redshirted last season, Harvey Perry played in the Huskies' exhibition game against Simon Fraser. A player may play in an exhibition game and still redshirt.
Six Huskies scored in double figures: Ryan Appleby (20 points), Adrian Oliver (20), Quincy Pondexter (18), Phil Nelson (13), Jon Brockman (10), and Artem Wallace (10). Quincy Pondexter recorded a double-double, grabbing 13 rebounds in addition to his 18 points.
Tied 46-39 at half time, the Huskies outscored the Saints 62-35 in the second-half. The Huskies were led by Freshman Quincy Pondexter, who scored 14 points after the break.
The Huskies were dominant on the glass, outrebounding the Saints, 61-35. The Huskies also outscored the Saints 44-26 in the paint.
