Schmidt Named Gohuskies.com Student-Athlete Of The Week

SEATTLE - Freshmen Kale Schmidt of the men's track and field team is the Gohuskies.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 10-16. This is the first such honor for the Schmidt and the track and field team this year.

In his first collegiate meet as a Husky, Schmidt posted two top-five individual finishes at the UW Indoor Preview on Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor. He placed fourth in the long jump (22-11) and tied for fourth in the high jump (6-5).

He was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished second with a time of 3:14.51. That time is already faster than any men's 4x4 that the Huskies ran last year, indoors or out.

Other nominees include: Ruby Engreitz (gymnastics), Isaiah Thomas (men's basketball), Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (men's tennis), Chelsea Orr (women's track and field), Kristi Kingma (women's basketball) and Denise Dy (women's tennis).
