WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week for the week of Jan. 21-27 with the Dawgs Talia Walton earning the honor.
Walton averaged 17.5 points and 12.0 rebounds this week in wins over Oregon State and Oregon. The Federal Way, Wash. native had double-doubles in both games as the Dawgs overcame playing without star guard Jazmine Davis to earn a pair of wins.
It is the second time Walton has received the award this month as she was also honored following a sweep of the Arizona schools to open Pac-12 play.
Walton was huge the week for Washington, along with the 17.5 points and 12 rebounds per game, she chipped in five steals and three blocks.
She was instrumental in the second half against Oregon, scoring 13 of her 18 points in that frame. She also grabbed a game-high 13 boards. She opened the weekend with 17-point, 11-rebound effort in the win over Oregon State.
The Dawgs improved to 14-5 and 6-2 in the Pac-12. They are tied with UCLA for third place in the conference, just a game behind Stanford and California who share the league lead.
Washington hits the road this weekend for a rematch with the Arizona schools in The Valley of the Sun. The Dawgs take on Arizona on Friday in Tucson and the Sun Devils Sunday at 10 a.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
