COACH MEGGS: Lindsay Meggs is in his third season as head coach at Washington. This spring, one of his chief accomplishments has come to fruition with the opening of the new baseball team building at Husky Ballpark - a clubhouse, coaches' offices, training room, equipment room and donor area overlooking the field. Meggs came to the UW after having spent the previous three seasons at Indiana State and the 13 prior to that at Chico State, where he won NCAA Division II national championships in 1997 and 1999. He helped Chico to the D-II College World Series seven times and won the league eight times. At Indiana State, he was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 after guiding the Sycamores to a second-place finish, their highest since 1998. Currently, he boasts a 662-373-4 record over 18 seasons as a four-year college head coach. He'd previously served as head coach at Long Beach City College and Oxnard College. Born in San Jose and a graduate of Saratoga (Calif.) High, Meggs played four seasons as the starting third baseman at UCLA. He was drafted by the Brewers in 1983, and then again by the Royals after his senior year in 1984. Meggs is joined by assistant coaches Dave Nakama, Dave Dangler and Jordon Twohig.

SERIES HISTORY: Washington has a long history vs. Seattle University, but until the 2010 season, when the Redhawks' baseball program was revived, the two Seattle-based programs hadn't played since 1986. Last season, the two teams split four games as SeattleU won two of three at Husky Ballpark and the Huskies won one at home and one at SU. Washington and UC Irvine have faced one another relatively often the last few years. The Anteaters hold a narrow 10-9 lead in the all-time series. The last meetings came in 2009, when the teams split a high-scoring midweek series. UCI won the opener 17-13 and the UW won the next, 13-12.

SQUAD BREAKDOWN: Among the 35 players on the 2012 Husky roster, there are two seniors, 12 juniors, 10 sophomores and 11 true freshmen. The squad includes 15 returners and 20 newcomers (11 true freshmen, three sophomore transfers and six junior transfers). Entering the 2012 season, the UW's returning players have competed in a total of 695 Husky baseball games. Eight different veteran position players have combined for 1,707 career at bats. Six veteran UW pitchers have combined to make 44 career starts and have pitched 420.2 career innings in a Husky uniform.

ANOTHER TOUGH SCHEDULE: Each year, Washington boasts one of the toughest schedules in the season, if only by virtue of playing the rigorous Pac-12 Conference. According to well-regarded college baseball website,, the Huskies have the ninth-toughest schedule in the country, though most of the Pac-12's team rank highly. The Huskies, of course, face the 10 other Pac-12 teams. Six Pac-12 teams (Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA) were ranked in either the Baseball America and USA Today coaches' preseason polls, or both. Oregon and USC also each also received votes in the coaches' poll. Additionally, the Huskies travel to UC Irvine for a three-game series in late February. The Anteaters were ranked No. 26 (one spot out of the top 25) by the coaches.

THEY'RE COMING FROM ALL OVER: The 2012 Husky baseball roster includes players from seven different states. Of the 35 players on the official roster entering the season, 18 are from Washington, 11 are from California, two are from Idaho and there is one player each from Arizona, Colorado, Hawai'i and Indiana. Washington's baseball roster has traditionally been heavily dominated by in-state players. Of the 18 players from the Evergreen State, 17 come from west of the Cascade Mountains, (the western half of the state).
