TOWSON, Md. - Jill Collymore was honored as a 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Tuesday.
Collymore, an outside hitter from Bellevue, Wash., carries a 3.78 GPA, with a double-major in psychology and digital arts and media. The Academic All-America third-team selection is the first for Collymore and the first volleyball Academic All-American for Washington since 2006. Cynthia Barboza of Stanford was the only other member of the Pac-10 to garner a selection.
Collymore has racked up 36 service aces on the season, leading the Pac-10 and ranking 35th in the nation in service aces, averaging 0.43 aces per set. She is third on the team in kills per set, averaging 3.04 and has the second-highest attack percentage of Husky hitters with .301 [255-64-634]. Collymore also averages 1.96 digs per set and is fifth on the team in blocks per set with 0.46. She has six double-doubles on the season, including a 23-kill, 13-dig performance at Arizona State on Sept. 26.
Collymore and the rest of the Huskies are back in action Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 7:30pm for the regular season finale against Arizona and Arizona State. The Huskies will learn their NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday when the live selection show airs at 7pm on ESPNU.
