SEATTLE - University of Washington women's coach Tia Jackson announced the hiring of Greg Nared as assistant women's basketball coach on Tuesday.

Nared (pronounced NARD) joins the Huskies after a highly successful career in both coaching and private business in the Portland area. Before taking a head coaching position at Westview High School in Portland, Nared was a prominent agent and business manager in the sports industry, working at such institutions as the William Morris Agency in Beverley Hills, as well as Nike. It was at Nike, Nared managed the business relationships of high-profile athletes such as golfers Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie, along with Michael Jordan. His client list also included former Seattle Sonics star Gary Payton and Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway.

As part of "Team Tiger," Nared built relationships with various sponsors and was a key figure in product development, marketing, promotions and PR.

Nared also developed grassroots basketball initiatives as part of his responsibilities at Nike.

The Wilmington, Ohio, native will have an instrumental role on Jackson's staff in player development and recruiting, where he brings considerable knowledge of the prep and AAU landscape in the Pacific Northwest. Nared was an instrumental coaching figure in one of the Portland metro area's toughest conferences, for which he was named Coach of the Year after reaching the postseason. During his tenure, his team at Westview sported a 3.5 GPA.

"I'm extremely excited about having Coach G on board," Jackson said. "He brings a tremendous amount of experience that will help catapult us to the next level. His ability to recruit, develop players and his understanding of the game as a whole makes Coach G a great asset to our Husky Family."

Nared was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Maryland, where he earned a bachelor's degree in communications. It's also where one of his daughters, Jacklin, currently plays as a redshirt freshman. His youngest daughter, Jaime, is a prep player in the Portland area.

Nared was a key figure in the development of both his daughters.

Nared's hiring now marks the second Nike executive Husky basketball has added to their staffs. The men's basketball team added Rafael Chillious as an assistant coach. Prior to the collegiate ranks, Chillious was the business manager for Elite Youth Basketball in Beaverton, Ore.
