LOS ANGELES - UCLA used three home runs and a solid pitching performance from senior Tyson Brummett to hand the Washington baseball team a 6-5 loss Thursday night in the first game of a three-game Pac-10 series at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Washington rallied for three in the ninth, but left the bases loaded.

Brummett (5-4), the reigning Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, limited the UW to five runs on 12 hits over his eight and one-third innings as UCLA improved to 14-14 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-10. The Huskies suffered their third straight loss to fall to 15-12 overall and 4-3 in conference.

Down 6-2 in the ninth, the Huskies rallied for three runs. Jake Rife hit a one-out solo homer to right. After a pair of singles, Brant Rustich replaced Brummett. Bradley Boyer singled to drive in one and, after a second out, Matt Hague walked to lead the bases. An infield single from Trevor Petersen drew the Huskies within one run, but Joey Lind grounded out to end the game.

In the bottom of the first, the Bruins jumped out to an nearly lead thanks to back-to-back home runs. After Brandon Crawford was hit by a pitch with one out, DH Cody Decker belted a two-run homer to right-center fielder, his sixth of the season. Gabe Cohen followed by blasting a line drive out to left field, his fifth.

The Huskies got one run back in the second as Lind singled and eventually came in from third on a balk, cutting the UCLA lead to 3-1.

Crawford struck back in the bottom of the second, hitting a two-run homer to center to make it a 5-1 Bruins lead.

After the Bruins added a sixth run in the fifth, the Huskies began to rally in the sixth. With two on via singles, catcher Joey Dunn hit his third single of the night to drive in a run. However, Brummett got a double play to end the threat.

Husky starter Nick Haughian (3-3) lasted only one and two-thirds innings in the loss, giving up five runs on three hits.

UW sophomore Jason Erickson had an outstanding outing in long relief. Over six and one-third innings, he gave up just one hit, an infield single, with no walks and three strikeouts.

The Huskies and Bruins play Friday at 6:00 p.m. Live audio of the game will be available ONLY on the internet at gohuskies.com as the radio broadcast on KKNW radio has been pre-empted. Saturday's 1:00 p.m. series finale will air on KKNW.
