Since his arrival at Washington in the fall of 2002, redshirt freshman Scott White has impressed coaches with his knowledge of the game and hitting ability. After cracking the depth chart during the team's fall practices, White was thrust into a position of some prominence after the injury to starting inside linebacker Joe Lobendahn in the team's win over Indiana. All the Lemon Grove, Calif., native has done since is rank sixth on the team with 17 tackles, including 1.5 for-loss and a fumble recovery. GoHuskies.com correspondent Jordan Roy-Byrne talked with White about his early success, and his thoughts on the remainder of the Huskies' season.

GoHuskies.com: You had an outstanding spring. Was there anything special you did to really show the coaches that you were ready to play?
Scott White: "I got an opportunity with two of the other guys being down. I had the chance to showcase what I could I do. My goal was to get better every day, and I feel I did that."

GH: Your very first game was at Ohio State. What was that like?
SW: "I just go out there and try to have fun. I do what I am coached to do. I tried to block out the jitters. It was a tough game for the team, but we learned a lot."

GH: There's been some talk that the Husky Stadium crowd hasn't been as loud this year as it has in years past. What do you think?
SW: "I encourage everyone to come out and support us. We need our 12th man. Crowd noise was a huge factor at Ohio State. We want that same advantage here. We want to make teams hate it when they have to come here to play. I think our crowd will do that."

GH: OK, switching gears. Do you download music online?
SW: "I really don't do it too much."

GH: Do you feel it's a crime?
SW: "It's not a crime. It's a crime when they charge you for it in the store! People should be at liberty to do what they want on their computers."

GH: You know what else is a crime? Ben dissing J-Lo! Whose fault do you think it is?
SW: (Laughs) "Probably J-Lo. She probably put too much pressure on the guy, trying to lock him up early. I guess he got cold feet."

GH: Your comments on Britney and Madonna's kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards?
SW: "I didn't see it. I heard about what happened, though."

GH: What have you heard?
SW: "I heard some guys talking about it. They said it was awesome. I bet a lot of guys got excited over it. I guess it was cool." (laughs)

GH: Trust me, it was. Thanks, Scott!
