Four out of five players on the Washington mens golf team were able to finish their first round before play was suspended due to heavy rain at the Topy Cup U.S.-Japan Intercollegiate Golf Championships Tuesday.

The Topy Cup, which features Duke and Pepperdine mens teams along with the Huskies, was carried out through rainy conditions on the second day of action, but was finally interupted after three hours of play. The round was to be continued Wednesday and will be followed by the final 18 holes. First round action was cancelled after heavy rainfall and lightning and the tournament was reduced from 54 holes to 36.

Here is a look at how Washington players fared in the first round of the Topy Cup. Four of the five players were able to finish before play was suspended. Troy Kelly will complete his round tomorrow.

About Washington: The Husky mens golf team put together its best performance in school history last year, finishing fourth in the team standings while then-freshman Troy Kelly finished tied for second individually at the NCAA Championships. The Huskies also captured three event titles to go with their school-record fourth-place showing at the NCAAs. Head coach O.D. Vincent shared Pac-10 coach of the year honors with ASUs Randy Lein. A record four Huskies were named to the all-Pac-10 team, led by Kelly, who became the first Husky freshman since 1988 to receive first-team all-conference honors. Kellys second-place tie at the NCAAs was the best finish ever for a Husky mens golfer, eclipsing Vincents 19th-place in 1988.

Next Up: Immediately upon returning home, UW hosts the Husky Invitational, Sept. 27-28 at Trophy Lake Golf and Casting in Port Orchard. Teams competing include: California, Fresno State, Hawaii-Hilo, Oregon, Pepperdine, Stanford, UC-Irvine, UCLA and Washington State. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. with two rounds Monday, followed by another 7:30 a.m. start for the final 18 holes Tuesday.
