SEATTLE, Wash. - Randy Vanderplow has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Washington and play baseball, head coach Ken Knutson announced today. Vanderplow will enroll at the UW this fall.

Vanderplow is a 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher from Cota de Caza, Calif., where he attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School. He was the top pitcher on a team that spent much of the season ranked in the USA Today Top 25 rankings.

Vanderplow joins a class of signees that already includes six players from the state of Washington: RHP/OF Brian Barton (Richland), LHP Zack Daniels (Tacoma/Charles Wright Academy), SS Richard Hall (Shoreline/Shorewood HS), RHP Shawn Kohn (Woodinville), IF/OF Todd Linden (Bremerton/Central Kitsap HS) and OF Ben Miller (Spokane/Central Valley HS).

Last season, Knutson led Washington to its second straight Pacific-10 Conference championship, beating No. 1-ranked Stanford two games to none in the championship series. The 1999 Husky team will report for fall practice in September.
