STANFORD, Calif. --- Washington pitchers Travis Anderson (Bellevue, WA/Newport HS), Bryan Williamson (Kennewick, WA/Kamiakin HS) and Matt Massingale (Kennewick, WA/Kennewick HS) combined on a three-hitter to lead No. 20 Washington (13-5) to a 9-5 victory over top-ranked Stanford (21-3-1) on Sunday afternoon at Sunken Diamond. The hit total is the lowest for Stanford since it had just three in a 3-1 loss to Texas Tech on May 28, 1995 at the NCAA Midwest I Regional in Wichita, Kansas.

The first six Huskies reached base in the opening inning en route to a four-run rally against Stanford starter Chad Hutchinson (4-2; Del Mar, CA/Torrey Pines HS) that put the visitors on top for good. Kevin Miller (Seattle, WA/Ballard HS), who finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, put the Huskies on top 1-0 with an RBI single to left. With the bases loaded two batters latter, Ryan Lentz (Woodinville, WA/Woodinville HS) cleared the bases with a double to right-center field that made it 4-0.

Stanford came back to cut the deficit to 6-4 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a passed ball and a wild pitch. The teams combined for 16 walks, six wild pitches, six hit-batters, two passed balls and two balks in the 3-hour, 35-minute affair. Washington then scored three runs in the top of the seventh, keyed by a two-run double from Miller.

Anderson worked the first 5.1 innings for thhe Huskies, and allowed three hits and four runs, three earned, to improve to 4-2. Williamson and Massingale then combined to allow no hits and just one unearned run over 3.2 innings out of the bullpen. Offensively for the Huskies, Kyle Woods (Marysville, WA/Marysville-Pilchuck HS) added a solo homer in the top of the sixth.

Stanford was led by sophomore John Gall (Portola Valley, CA/St. Francis HS), who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. Sophomore Edmund Muth (Long Beach, CA/St. John Bosco HS) also added a solo homer to right to lead off the bottom of the first.

The three-game nonconference series concludes on Monday at 6 p.m. at Sunken Diamond.
