SEATTLE--After two months of off-season training, the men and women on the Washington track squad are ready to lace them up and get on the track for the inaugural meet of the 2001 Indoor season.

Members of the Washington men's and women's track teams will make the trek to Cheney, Wash., for the Early Bird Invitational Saturday.

Head Coach Orin Richburg said the meet will allow some of his new charges a chance to jump into competition feet first without too many expectations.

"It is an opportunity for us to take our new athletes, freshmen and transfers, to a meet," Richburg said. " It will get them into competition but not in a high pressure situation. It will let us see what they can really do and it will help them down the line. We will take as many of them as we can fit in the bus."
