WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Junior Ja'Warren Hooker, who broke Washington's 19-year-old men's 200-meter record last weekend, was named the Pacific-10 Conference men's track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday by Commissioner Thomas Hansen.

Hooker clocked a speedy 200-meter time of time of 20.33 on Saturday in Tempe, Ariz. to shatter the Husky record of 20.46 established in 1981 by LaNoris Marshall. That time ranks No. 8 among all-time Pac-10 sprinters and ties Hooker for second among NCAA competitors this season.

Hooker also registered a time of 10.23 in the 100 meters on Saturday, his fastest legal time this season. Earlier this season, Hooker matched the school record he established during 1998 with a wind-aided 100 time of 10.18.

A product of Ellensburg (Wash.) High School, Hooker has now reached NCAA automatic qualifying standards in the 100- and 200-meter events. He will compete at the NCAA Division I Championships, May 31-June 3 in Durham, N.C.

Hooker's 200-meter performance marked the third Washington school record to fall this season, including the men's 5,000-meter mark by junior David Bazzi (13:47.63) and women's pole vault by Sandy Erickson (12-3 1/2).

The Huskies travel to Eugene's historic Hayward Field on Saturday for their annual dual meet with Oregon.
