Husky Women's Golf Takes Fifth

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. -- The Washington women's golf team finished in fifth place at the 12th Annual Pacific-10 Conference Women's Golf Championship on Wednesday afternoon carding a 54-hole team total of 917 on the Tijeras Creek Golf Club. The Huskies posted a 309 in the final round to finish one stroke behind fouth place UCLA, which finished with 300 for the round. Washington's final tally represents its best 54-hole total of the season. Arizona won its second consecutive team title, completing the championship a team total of 865 while Wildcat sophomore Jenna Daniels held on for the individual crown with a 1-under-par 215 over the 54 holes. Arizona State claimed second and Southern California placed third.

Washington was led by the 17th place finish of freshman Elisha Au who fired a 75 in the third round to finish with 228 for the tournament. Jennifer Stapleton followed closely, finishing in a tied for 19th with a 229. Andrea Cordova turned in Washington's best round of the day by carding a season-best 73, finishing tied for 32nd. Paola Bellotti finished the tournament with an 81 in the third round, finishing in 27th. The fifth-place finish marks Washington's best since the first tournament of the season, back in September when they finished fourth in the Northwest Classic. Fifth place also matches Washington's second-best finish in the Pac-10 Championships. UW placed fifth in 1996 and third in 1988 at the Pac-10 tournament.

The Huskies will likely be invited to play in the NCAA West Regional on May 7-9 in Stanford, Calif. on the Stanford Golf Course, where the Huskies have played twice this season.
