COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The 14th-ranked Washington baseball team was eliminated from the NCAA Central Regional Sunday, losing to host and second-seeded Texas A&M 6-4. Washington finishes its season with a 41-17 record, the Pac-10 championship and a third-place regional finish.

Sunday, both starting pitchers -- A&M's Casey Fossum and UW's Jeff Heaverlo -- were pitching on two days' rest after starting in Thursday's first round. Both were effective early as Fossum struck out five of the first six Husky batters and Heaverlo didn't allow a hit until the fourth.

In the fourth, Washington took a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by DH Bryan Williamson. The homer was Williamson's first since Feb. 21 and fourth of the season.

But A&M tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homer by Daylan Holt. In the fifth, Washington went back on top, 3-2, on a two-out RBI single by right fielder Nick Stefonick.

Texas A&M went ahead for the first time in the sixth when Steve Scarborough doubled and scored on a Craig Kuzmic single. Kuzmic scored the go-ahead run when, after Matt Massingale relieved Heaverlo with no out and the bases loaded, Holt bounced into a double play.

The Huskies knotted the score at 4-4 in the seventh when Chris Magruder sent home Kyle Woods with a single, but in the bottom of the frame, Chad Hudson sent a solo homer over the left field wall. Later in the inning, leadoff man Jason Tyner tripled to plate the Aggies' sixth run.

Closer Eric French (3-1) earned the victory, throwing two and two-thirds shutout innings. Both Heaverlo and Fossum fanned six and allowed four runs. Massingale (6-2) suffered the loss.

Magruder, the Huskies' junior center fielder, finished the season with a .402 batting average, marking his second straight .400 season. Stefonick closed out the year with a 16-game hitting streak and batted .407.
