SEATTLE - BYU put three players in double figures and handed the Washington women's basketball team an 85-62 loss in its home opener, in front of 1,257 fans at Mercer Arena, the Huskies home court for the year as Hec Edmundson Pavilion undergoing renovation.

Washington drops 1-2 on the season while BYU improves to 2-0.

The Huskies, who never took a lead during the game, shot just 38 percent (20-53) from the field. Junior Megan Franza was the leading scorer with 18 points, followed by Loree Payne with 16. Jill Adams had a game-high 24 points for BYU.

BYU jumped out to a quick lead, with a 15-0 run to make it 19-4 at 14:12 in the first half. The Cougars went up by as many as 19 points and took a 44-28 lead at the break.Washington used a 6-0 run to cut it to 12 on a jumper by Franza with 5:53 remaining, but that was as close as the Huskies would get.

Washington departs Wednesday for Hawaii, where it will play in the Rainbow Wahine Classic. The Huskies open against Portland, Fri., Nov. 26 at 1:20 p.m. HST.
