JAPAN -- The 13th-ranked Washington men's golf team kicked off its fall season with a victory overseas, at the Topy Cup U.S.-Japan Intercollegiate Golf Championships. The Huskies totalled 595 over 36 holes for the tournament, ahead of second place Duke at 597. BYU finished third (602) and Nihon University of Japan was fourth (603). Sophomore Troy Kelly carded a 143 (73-70), the low score in the mens competition, to win individual medalist honors. Kristina Engstrom of Duke won the womens title with a 146 (75-71).

After heavy rain and lightning, the tournament was reduced to 36 holes from the originally scheduled 54.
