LAS VEGAS - After beating Creighton, 16-12, earlier in the day at the UNLV/Coors Desert Classic, the Washington baseball teams rally fell short in a loss to Clemson, 13-12, thanks to two home runs from Tiger second baseman Kurt Bultmann.

Bultmann belted a grand slam in the sixth and a three-run homer in the seventh to give the Tigers and lead and add some insurance. UW reliever Daniel Jahn (1-1), who surrendered the grand slam, took the loss while Clemson reliever Matt Additon (2-0) earned the win. Washington fell to 6-3 on the season while 12th-ranked Clemson remained unbeaten at 4-0 on the season.

Down two runs to one, the Huskies got a leadoff home run in the bottom of the third inning from Dominic Woody, his sixth in eight games this season. Later that inning with the bases loaded, Matt Hollod blooped a double down the left field line to give Washington a 4-2 lead and chase Ryan Mottl, Clemsons National Team pitcher, from the game.

In the fifth, Hollod doubled home Kevin Ticen and then scored on a single from shortstop Greg Brooks to give the Huskies a 6-3 lead. But in the top of the sixth, the Tigers rallied for six runs. Four of those tallies came when Bultmann blasted his grand slam.

Down 13-8 in the eighth, the Huskies scored three runs in the eighth and had the bases loaded with none out in the ninth, but a double play scored a run to make it 13-12 and Kyle Woods popped out to end the threat.

Hollod led the Husky offense with 2-for-3 hitting and three runs batted in. Ticen chipped in with a double, a solo homer and three runs scored. Aside from Bultmann, Jason Harris, Khalil Greene and Justin Singleton each had a pair of hits for the Tigers.

Friday, the Huskies take on Nevada-Reno at 10:00 a.m. in the third of five games in Las Vegas.
