Washington center fielder Chris Magruder and pitcher Jeff Heaverlo were named the Pac-10 Northern Division Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 20-26, the Pac-10 office announced yesterday.
Magruder, a junior from Yakima, Wash., batted .769 (10-for-13) with 12 runs, two doubles, a triple, a home run, four RBI and two stolen bases in five games last week. The Huskies' leadoff man also walked 10 times and was hit by two pitches, meaning that he reached base in 22 of 25 plate appearances.
Heaverlo, a sophomore righty from Ephrata, Wash., struck out 12 batters in an eight-inning outing at Portland State, allowing only two runs and six hits. It was the second straight 12-K outing for Heaverlo, who fanned 12 Cougars April 18 in a win over Washington State.
Today, the Huskies host St. Martin's before taking on Oregon State this weekend in a crucial four-game series that will determine the Pac-10 North championship.
