Huskies Second Half Surges Seals Victory Over Wichita State

SEATTLE (AP) - Deon Luton and Senque Carey scored four points each as Washington opened the second half with a 16-4 run and then coasted to a 61-47 victory Friday night over Wichita State.

Carey and Luton each finished with 12 points, while Michael Johnson added 10 for Washington (4-4). Will Perkins grabbed 10 rebounds for the Huskies.

Jason Perez scored 24 points for Wichita State (3-3), and became the 10th-leading scorer in school history.

After Washington's decisive run at the start of the second half the Huskies never led by less than 11 points.

The Huskies notched their first home victory of the season. They are playing off-campus at KeyArena while Hec Edmundson Pavilion undergoes a one-year renovation.

There were three lead changes and two ties in the game's early minutes.

Chris Walcott scored four points as Washington took the lead for good with an 11-0 run midway through the first half.

Perez scored five points as Wichita State responded with a 12-4 run to pull within one point at 19-18.

Paced by Luton's five points, the Huskies closed out the final six minutes of the half with a 12-6 run to take a 31-24 halftime lead.
