HAVANA, Cuba - Junior starter Taylor Grant today fanned three in three innings, and outfielder Ben Miller smacked a solo home run as the University of Washington baseball team defeated a Cuban professional team 14-3 in Havana, improving to 2-0 on the five-game trip to Cuba.

Grant allowed just one earned run in 3.0 innings pitched to earn the win, while freshman Trevor Gipson held the Cuban squad to just one hit over the last 3.0 innings to earn the save. Freshman All-American catcher Jefferson Thiel, who homered twice in Washington's 17-2 win yesterday, was 2-for-3 today, as was sophomore outfielder Tyler Davidson. Kendry Morales and Alexander Mayeta each hit solo home runs for Cuba.

The Cubans will throw a more veteran team on the field against the Huskies on Monday --a previously unscheduled game -- and Tuesday before playing a split-squad game on Wednesday. In that contest, the two teams will consist of half Huskies and half Cubans. The team returns to Seattle early on the morning of Friday, Sept. 8.
