SEATTLE - The No. 19 Washington baseball team rallied from a 7-1 deficit, but fell one run short and lost the last game of a three-game series, 7-6, to No. 16 Arizona State Sunday at Husky Ballpark. The Huskies won the series, two games to one. It was the first time a team from the Pac-10 Southern Division had visited Seattle for a regular-season series since 1971.

The loss snapped Husky freshman Jeff Carlsen's win streak at four. The righty from Poulsbo had won his first four decisions before Sunday, but gave up four earned runs on four hits and three walks in three and two-thirds for the loss. ASU starter Richy Leon improved to 2-0, giving up five runs on eight hits and seven strikeouts in seven and one-third.

Chuck Crumpton, who gave up the game-winning homer in the ninth inning Saturday, earned his fourth save for ASU, which improved to 21-14. UW fell to 16-7 on the year.

The loss broke UW's nine-game home winning streak. The Huskies are now 9-2 at their new park.

The Devils took the lead in the first when Willie Bloomquist walked and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly. Bloomquist then homered to lead off the third to make it 2-1, after the Huskies had scored a run in the second. Michael Collins hit a two-run homer for ASU in the fourth to make it 4-1, and a run in the fifth and two in the sixth made for a six-run lead.

In the seventh, Kyle Woods belted a two-run homer off of Leon. Kevin Miller followed in the eighth with a solo homer. It was Miller's 23rd career homer, tying the UW career mark, held by Jon Vander Griend. After another run in the eighth, Woods belted his second homer of the day, this time a solo blast, in the ninth off of ASU reliever Aaron Kramer. That cut the lead to one.

With one out, Crumpton came on and got a popout before walking pinch hitter Pete Orgill. But Crumpton closed the game by getting Chris Magruder to ground out to second base.

The Huskies continue the eight-game homstand when they take on Lewis-Clark State Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. before hosting Washington State this weekend for a four-game Pac-10 North series.
