SEATTLE - Juniors Victoria Hayward and Hooch Fagaly had three hits each to lead the No. 19/16 UW softball team (15-5) to a 2013 home opening 17-1 (5 inning) victory over Ohio (12-5) on Friday night in the Husky Softball Classic. The Huskies extended their winning streak to 10 games.
Washington had 12 hits and 13 RBI and held Ohio to just one run and three hits in the shortened game.
Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) had a team-high four RBI and was just a home run short of the cycle. She hit a single in the first and a triple and a double in the fourth. She also reached on a hit by pitch in the first.
The Huskies got off to a strong start with seven runs in the first. All nine Husky hitters reached base in the first inning in their first at bat.
Fagaly, Shawna Wright, Jennie McNeill, Hayward and Missy Taukeiaho all had RBI in the inning. Fagaly drove in the eighth Husky run with a single in the third.
Nine more Huskies scored in the fourth to secure the run rule. A total of 15 Huskies batted in the inning with a triple, double and five singles.
The Bobcats got their lone run in the third inning off of Washington starter Kaitlin Inglesby.
Inglesby (Portland, Ore.), now 6-2 on the season, allowed just one run with four strikeouts in 3.0 innings. Sophomore Kasey Stanchek (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) pitching the final 2.0 innings and allowed just one walk and struck out three.
Savannah Jo Dorsey was handed just her second loss in the circle (6-2) after allowing 10 earned runs in 3.0 innings for Ohio.
Five more games will be played as a part of the Husky Softball Classic on Saturday. Seattle and Ohio will start the day at 10 a.m. followed by Seattle and Yale, Ohio and Bradley and then the two Husky games against Bradley at 5:30 p.m. and New Mexico at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets can be bought at the softball ticket office beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. One ticket is good for the entire day.
