CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced Monday the recipients of their End of the Year Awards. Six awards were voted on by coaches after the National Championships in Lake Mercer, N.J.
The Huskies’ Varsity 8+ was selected as the Heavyweight Crew of the Year after going undefeated versus collegiate crews in the 2014 season, capping it off with a win at the IRA National Championship on June 1. It was the Huskies’ fourth straight and 17th overall National Title.
This is the fourth year in a row that the UW has been named the top crew in the nation by the IRA.
Huskies Head Coach Mike Callahan received The Heavyweight Coach of the Year Award. In seven years at the helm of the Washington Men’s Crew program, Callahan has won five national championships and finished second twice, never losing the team total Ten Eyck title.
