SEATTLE -- The No. 3 University of Washington men’s rowing team is set to take on crews from No. 12 Stanford and cross-state rival Washington State Sat. April 12 with races scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. PT on the Montlake Cut.
Last weekend the Dawgs hosted the Husky Open and battled crews from No. 6 Brown, No. 18 Oregon State, No. 19 Drexel and Western Washington, but the competition would not prove strong enough to out row UW. The men would end up winning all nine races, most by open water leads.
This weekend the men will face the 12th-ranked Cardinal crews for three races (varsity, second varsity and third varsity/freshmen 8+s) and the Cougars for three (varsity 4+, second freshman and open 8+s).
The Cardinal began its spring season with a sweep of five races at the David Invitational and then making the trip to the San Diego Crew Classic. At the Crew Classic, they advanced three boats to the grand final races on Sunday, but would only see one top-three finish, a third place ending for their V8+ boat in 6:05.26.
The WSU crews had less luck, but were also competing down in San Diego. Their boats would make it to Sunday, but in the petite finals.
Over the past two regular season meetings with Stanford, UW has swept victories across all races, and they will look to keep that streak going this weekend.
