SEATTLE – Every year Washington Rowing kicks off the spring season with a storied tradition. This year’s 113th-annual Class Day Regatta is Sat. March 29th at 10:00 a.m.. The regatta features intrasquad competition and is the only time the athletes get the opportunity to row solely with their own class.

There will be four races Saturday morning starting with two varsity/novice challenges featuring current athletes as well as some alumni and then concluding with the battles between the classes.

The weekend kicks off tonight, Friday, March 28 at 6:00 p.m. Washington Rowing with the annual Varisty Boat Club Banquet where all the new members will be welcomed into Husky Rowing history. The guest speaker this year is Judy Rantz Willman who will be speaking about her journey with her father through writing Boys In The Boat.

The weekend will also feature the 50th reunion of the class of 1964 and the annual Women's Alumni Race out on the Montlake Cut. Before the collegiate races begin alumni from the women’s rowing program will be facing off against each other on their old stomping grounds. The alumni event begins at 8 a.m.

The annual Class Day “Cruise with Croissants” on the Argosy Boat “Goodtime II” will set out on Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. with a tour around Laurelhurst, Sandpoint and across to the east side of Lake Washington. Guests on the cruise will have an up close and personal view of the races with commentary from both head coaches and will disembark to catch the award ceremony after.

Immediately following the races the award ceremony will be held on the decks of Conibear Shellhouse to honor the winning classes. During the ceremony the 2014 captains, the Piggott Trophy for the most inspirational rower and the Schaller and Dick Erickson scholarships will all be announced.

In conjunction with the Class Day events the Huskies will also be hosting an Open House for all high school athletes and their parents at Conibear Shellhouse. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m on Satuarday. The program includes an informational session with the coaches and academic staff at the University of Washington. The athletes and their parents have a chance to learn more about the collegiate recruiting process and how to become a part of Washington Rowing. The program will conclude with a tour of the boathouse.
