Huskies Suffer 7-0 Loss to No. 16 California

BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 42 University of Washington women’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 defeat to 16th-ranked California on Saturday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley, Calif. The Dawgs move to 10-6 on the season and 0-4 in Pac-12 play. The Dawgs return home next weekend to host UCLA (March 21, 1:30) and USC (March 23, Noon).

The Dawgs dropped the doubles point but did win one match as Grace Ysidora and Angela Chen, playing together for the first time this year won 6-5 after the match went to a tiebreak. Cal clinched the point with an 8-3 win on court two and an 8-4 win on court one.

In singles play, the backend of the lineup clinched the match for the Bears with courts six through four winning. The Dawgs battled hard in the top three of the lineup as Julija Lukac lost 7-5, 6-2 to No. 13 Zsofi Susanyi on court three. Grace Ysidora, playing on court two, fell 6-4, 6-2 to No. 30 Anett Schutting while Elianne Douglas-Miron dropped her match 6-2, 6-1 to No. 26 Denise Starr.

The Dawgs return to Seattle to continue Pac-12 play as they host UCLA on March 21 at 1:30 p.m. and USC on March 23 at Noon.

Once the doubles point was won, and the court-three match was tied at 5-5, the teams decided to play a tiebreaker for that match, with UW winning the tiebreaker 7-5 and that match ending up 6-5.
