SEATTLE – The University of Washington Men’s Basketball team will sport patches on their uniforms for the remainder of the 2013-14 season to recognize and honor former UW men’s basketball coach Marv Harshman who passed away on April 12, 2013.

Harshman amassed a 246-146 record during his 14 seasons (1972-1985) at UW which ties for the second-most on UW’s all-time coaching victories list. He held that spot on his own until his former player and current head coach Lorenzo Romar, tied his record on Thursday, Jan. 2 at Arizona State as he picked up his 246th win at UW.

At UW, Harshman advanced to three NCAA tournaments, two NITS and finished his career with back-to-back Pac-10 Championships in 1984 and 1985.

Harshman, who had a career record of 642-448 after stints at PLU, Washington State and UW, was inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Pac-10 Hall of Champions in 2003. He coached in 1,090 collegiate games which is the 14th-highest total in division I history.
