TEMPE, Ariz -- Senior C.J. Wilcox scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Huskies a 76-65 victory over Arizona State in their Pac-12 opener Thursday night. The Huskies, who were opening conference action on the road for the third time in four years, picked up their eighth-straight win over the Sun Devils, improving Coach Romar’s mark vs. ASU to 21-5.

Wilcox was one of five Huskies to finish the game with double digits and posted his 16th-straight 15+ scoring effort, a feat no player under Coach Romar has accomplished. Andrew Andrews finished with 14, while Nigel Williams-Goss added 12 points and seven rebounds. Perris Blackwell and Darin Johnson also added 10 points each.

After a little bit of a slow start trailing ASU, 16-10, UW went on a 20-4 over seven minutes in the first half before heading into halftime up 40-23. The Huskies shot 51.6 percent in the first half while holding the Sun Devils to a mere 29 percent, including a 10 percent mark from the 3-point line.

ASU didn't go away however, coming out of halftime on a 11-4 run to cut the Huskies lead to 10 with 16 minutes left in the second half forcing UW to call timeout. UW wasn't shaken though as Desmond Simmons knocked down a jumper followed by 3-pointers from Andrew Andrews and C.J. Wilcox extending the lead back to 18.

The Huskies led by 24 at one point in the second half before head coach Lorenzo Romar rested his starting line-up.

UW improved to 9-5 and 1-0 in Pac-12 play and now heads to face the No. 1 Arizona Wildcats on Saturday at 11 a.m. PT.
