EDMONDS, Wash. – Washington Baseball’s Purple team broke out with a 7-1 win over the Gold squad Thursday at Titon Stadium on the campus of Edmonds Community College to grab the 2-1 series advantage in the Huskies’ end-of-fall Purple & Gold World Series.
Purple led from start to finish and rode the arms of four pitchers that allowed just three hits over seven innings to grab the advantage in the series.
Lead-off hitter Braden Bishop set the tone all night for the Purple squad with three hits. Trevor Mitsui and Will Sparks each had two hits, including home runs to lead an 11-hit effort from the Purple squad.
Freshman Chris Baker added a bases-clearing 3-run double in the sixth inning for the Purple team.
Andrew Ely was one of three Gold-team members to collect a hit, including a RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.
Purple starter Alex Hardy allowed just one hit and struck out two in two innings of work. Travis Ulvstead struck out two in two innings of hitless relief.
Gold starter Tyler Davis was tagged with the loss after allowing six hits and three earned runs in four innings of work.
The final game of the series is at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Everett's Memorial Stadium. Admission is free to fans.
