PORTLAND, Ore. – The Washington women’s soccer team took down the Central Michigan Flying Chippewas 2-0 on Sunday, in the final round of play at the Nike Portland Invitational. The Huskies move to 2-4-0 on the season.

“We played well for 90 minutes today and Becca Schoales helped our team breaking the goal scoring drought,” head coach Lesle Gallimore said, “We created opportunities on a very organized CMU defense using patience and better possession than we did on Friday.”

Both Husky goals came from freshman Becca Schoales and were assisted by Lindsay Elston. The first, in the 26th minute, was from a clean shot in the box. The second goal came off of an Elston cross from the left that Schoales headed into the net in the 53th minute.

UW dominated the entire match, outshooting the Chippewas 21-6, with seven of those on goal. In addition to Schoales two goals on two shots, the Dawgs were led by Elston and Isabel Farrell who both had five shots in the match.

Kate Bennett recorded four shots in her 36 minutes of play and Allyson Brahs had three. The Husky offense was rounded out by one shot each from both Christina Archer and Molly Boyd.

Megan Kufeld was in the net for the full 90 minutes and made two saves against Central Michigan, which earned her her second shutout of the season.

Gallimore continued, “Our goal this week was to improve our defending and we did that in spades. I think our confidence as a team improved this week and we’re looking forward to performing better for our home fans than we did the last time out.”

The Huskies will now return home to play Seattle University on Fri. Sept. 20 at 7:00 pm PT.
