HARTFORD, Conn. – Husky Gymnastics assistant coach Elise Ray was honored at last weekend’s P&G Championships as part of the induction ceremony of the 2013 USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame class.

USA Gymnastics is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year and as part of the celebration they are hosting a museum that highlights their 50 years of champions. All Hall of Fame members who were at the championships were honored in addition to the newly inducted athletes. Ray also used her time in Hartford for recruiting.

“The recognition is very nostalgic,” Ray said, “it brings up a lot of emotions and memories, most of which, are full of pride. I'm always honored to be standing next to so many incredible athletes and coaches. I'm in great company being a Hall of Fame member and we all share a very special, lasting, bond.”

Ray was inducted into the Hall of Fame with the 2011 class as a part of the U.S. Olympic Women’s team. During the Sydney games, Ray served as captain for the team helping lead them to a bronze medal. Over her career, Ray competed on six U.S. National Teams. She also has had three uneven bar skills named after her.

The Husky assistant coach competed for the University of Michigan, under current Washington head coach Joanne Bowers, for four years tallying a school record 14 All-American honors.

Coach Bowers said, “We are so fortunate to have Elise beginning her 3rd year coaching here at UW.  She brings a great passion and knowledge of our sport and provides much needed help in choreography and dance to our program.  We are constantly on the road recruiting and Elise has thrived in the recruiting world.  Her name and contacts have really helped us, along with her great work ethic.  It is amazing how many young gymnasts are training 'the Ray' on bars this summer!  She has been a great hire and is a great young coach.”

The team is excited to get back on campus and to start training and are also looking forward to the Meet the GymDawgs event coming up in October.
