Husky Stadium Sailgating, Tailgating Gets Even Better
The stadium and field aren’t all that’s new for Husky football this fall.
Husky Harbor, Washington’s unique boat mooring site in Union Bay just steps from Husky Stadium, got renovated, too. Its new, wide docks can accommodate boats from one to 100+ feet long.
And on land, UW has added 200 additional automobile parking spaces than it had in the previous Husky Stadium, making access to football games better than it’s ever been.
Husky Stadium and Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium are the two venues in major college football that can be directly accessed by boat, and thus are the only ones that truly have “sailgating.” But Husky Harbor is far closer to the stadium and far more expansive than Tennessee’s, making the convenience and tradition of sailgating at Washington the only experience of its kind in America.
How easy is Husky Harbor to use? You don’t even have to tie to the dock to use it. UW provides a round-trip shuttle service from boats moored out in the bay into the dock for $8 per person. To flag down a shuttle, simply signal with your hands, life vest, or boating flag -- even flashing your “Dubs” would work.
Local charter boats are also an option, through Seattle-area charter companies.
Season and single-game docking permits are available. The cost varies depending on the overall length of the boat.
On land, UW will welcome the 200 additional parking spaces thanks to the new, indoor parking garage under the redone south stands adjoined to the new UW Sports Medicine Clinic. That lot provides direct elevator access to the new luxury seating in the south stands.
