Final Stats

SALT LAKE CITY - It wasn't easy, but the No. 13/12 UW softball team took game two and evened the series vs. Utah on Saturday afternoon, 11-8.

Between the two teams, there were 26 hits in the game, 19 runs and six errors. Washington (35-14, 13-7) was led by seniors Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) and sophomore Kylee Lahners (Laguna Hills, Calif.) with three hits each. Juniors Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) and Whitney Jones (Upland, Calif.) and sophomore Kimberlee Souza (Waialua, Hawai'i) each had two hits.

Junior Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) picked up her 20th win of the year in the circle, her second 20-win season in her three-year career so far as a Husky. Inglesby allowed two earned runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings of relief work.

Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) earned the start and allowed four runs on three hits in 1.2 innings. Sophomore Kasey Stanchek (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) allowed one run on two hits in 0.1 innings in relief.

Washington picked up three runs in the first, two in the second, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the seventh. Utah got two runs in the first and second and one in the third to tie the game at 5-5. The Utes (24-28 7-16) scored one more in the fourth and two in the fifth.

The first Husky run by Hayward scored on a passed ball. A single by Lahners drove junior Hooch Fagaly (Chino, Calif.) and an infield single by Jones drove in Wright all in the first inning.

A two-run home run in the first by Kate Dickman put Utah on the board.

Inglesby tripled in the second driving in Fagaly and a Souza single scored Lahners in the second. Utah's two runs in the second scored on a single by Kelsi Hoopiiaina. Two singles in the third for Utah gave the Utes another run.

Another three-run inning for the UW in the fourth began with a triple by Hayward. Inglesby got the first RBI and a single by Souza drove in pinch runner Marki Creger-Zier (Steilacoom, Wash.). A Wright single drove in another pinch runner, Mercedes Wetmore (Lake Tapps, Wash.). Two singles and a sac bunt drove one in for Utah in the bottom half of the inning.

A sac bunt earned Inglesby an RBI in the fifth and Fagaly scored on a single by Lahners. Hoopiiaina hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the inning for Utah.

The final run of the game was scored by Hayward in the seventh on a Utah throwing error.

The series will be decided on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT.
