Dawgs Continue Play At Pac-12 Championships

OJAI, Calif. -- Play continued on Friday at the Pac-12 Championships with the doubles draws getting underway. Washington's top doubles team of Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu was ousted from the Championship bracket in the first round.

Douglas-Miron and Shimizu entered their first round match with a national ranking of No. 60, while their opponent Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez of UCLA had a ranking of No. 58. However, the UCLA pairing was the better team on Friday, knocking off Douglas-Miron and Shimizu, 8-2.

In the Invitational doubles bracket, Washington fared better as Natali Coronel and Grace Ysidora advanced to the second round. The Husky duo knocked off Hannah James and Joanna Smith of Arizona State, 8-4. They advance to face Natalie Dillon and Krista Hardbeck of Stanford later this afternoon.

Also in that bracket were Andjela Nemcevic and Julija Lukac, who faced Gabi Desimone and Danielle Lao of USC. The Trojan pairing was the top seed in the Invitational bracket and defeated Nemcevic and Lukac, 8-6.

In singles, Coronel was the lone Husky left as she played her Round of 16 match against Tayler Davis of Cal. The fourth seeded Davis knocked off Coronel, 6-2, 6-2.

As the Pac-12 Tournament winds down, Washington looks forward to the NCAA Selection show on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., PT. The Dawgs are currently ranked No. 42 and hoping to secure a spot in the 64-team field.
