2014-15 (Track): Made successful move back to the steeplechase, which he had only run once as a freshman, reaching the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene where he finished 21st overall in the semifinals to earn All-America honorable mention ... lowered his steeplechase PR at NCAA West Prelims in Austin, going 8:48.19 to take 11th overall and advance to the final site while also moving to No. 10 in school history ... took fifth in the steeple at the Pac-12 Championships in 8:52.63 ... posted a then-PR of over seven seconds in the steeplechase in a victory at the UW-WSU Dual, running 8:50.13 in just the third steeple of his career ... ran on a pair of relays at the Drake Relays, helping UW take second in the distance medley relay in a time of 9:43.11, and also running on the 4x1600m relay that placed eighth ... first race of the outdoor season was a memorable win in the steeplechase at the Pepsi Team Invite where he kicked hard and caught an Oregon runner at the line who did not realize he was coming, resulting in a highlight that went viral online and on television ... competed just twice indoors, running the mile at the MPSF Championships, finishing 16th in 4:10.00 ... ran an indoor 3k PR at the Husky Classic in 8:13.14 ... (Cross Country): Helped lead the Huskies back to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2009, running in the top-seven at all six races and in the top-four at five of the six meets … scored for UW at all three postseason races … at his first NCAA meet, finished 154th overall, the No. 3 Husky to cross, as UW placed 20th overall … was third on the team at NCAA West Regionals, finishing 32nd overall in 30:11 … earned a top-25 finish at Pac-12s, taking 22nd overall, fourth on the team, as UW placed fourth … at the Wisconsin Invitational, was the No. 6 finisher for UW, in 150th overall … at the inaugural Washington Invitational, placed 45th overall, fourth on the squad … was third overall at the season-opening Sundodger Invite, second on the team.
2013-14 (Track): An impressive season as he earned All-America First Team honors as part of the distance medley relay indoors and advanced to the NCAA West Prelims outdoors … outside, he ran a 1,500-meters PR of 3:45.43 at the Stanford Invitational … took 39th overall in the West Prelims in the 1,500m, running 3:51.48 … was part of the victorious 4x1600m relay squad at the Drake Relays, and also had a second-place finish at Drake on the DMR … got a win in the 3,000-meters at the UW-WSU Dual in 8:17.73, and was third in the 1,500m … tough outing at Pac-12s as he was 23rd overall in the 1,500m prelims … indoors, capped a great season by anchoring the distance medley relay to eighth-place at nationals in an altitude-adjusted 9:35.91 … ran the lead-off leg of the DMR at MPSFs, as UW won the title in 9:31.82, the No. 2 time in school history … posted a PR in the mile of 4:02.95 at the UW Invitational, the No. 10 mark in school history … also ran a 4:03.80 mile at the Husky Classic ... (Cross Country): One of the top runners on the squad, running in the top-five at four races … was the Huskies’ second finisher at the NCAA West Regional Championships, finishing 62nd overall in 31:14 for 10k … also was the No. 2 runner for UW at the Wisconsin Invitational, finishing 84th … placed 28th at the Bill Dellinger Invite, the fourth Husky across the line … started the season with a seventh-place run at the Sundodger Invite … entered at Pac-12s but was unable to finish that race.
2012-13 (Track): Worked his way back from injury and redshirted the year … competed just once at the end of the outdoor season, but proved he was back healthy as he got the victory in the 1,500-meters at the Ken Shannon Invite, posting a 3:48.72 while racing unattached ... did not run during the cross country season.
2011-12 (Track): Showed great promise in his first track season, competing in a multitude of distance events and running in both conference championships ... ran the steeplechase three times outdoors, with a top time of 9:12.78 at the Trojan Invitational where he finished fourth ... also took third in the steeple at the UW-WSU Dual meet in 9:15.03 ... switched to the 1,500m for his first Pac-12 Championships run, placing 20th overall in the prelims ... ran a 1,500m PR of 3:50.23 at the Mt. SAC Relays ... improved all throughout the indoor season, culminating with a mile run of 4:04.54 at the UW Final Qualifier, which earned him the No. 10 spot on the Husky mile top-10 list ... scored in the mile at the MPSF Championships, finishing eighth in 4:05.24 ... also ran 4:05.75 at the Husky Classic to take 14th ... won his heat in his first track race, running a 4:10.55 mile at the UW Indoor Preview ... also ran a 3k time of 8:16.35 at the UW Invitational ... (Cross Country): One of three freshmen to suit up for the Huskies in the fall ... earned a spot in his first Pac-12 Championship race, placing 67th in Arizona in a time of 25:28 ... scored for the Huskies in his first time wearing the jersey, as he placed 87th overall and fourth on the team at the Roy Griak Invite in Minnesota ... also scored at the Wisconsin Invitational, where he was 204th and fifth on the team in the massive field ... started the year with an 11th-place finish running unattached at the Sundodger in a time of 24:42.
High School and Personal: Born in Seattle ... parents are Lemlem Berhane and Simon Negash ... has one older sister, Selina, and one younger brother, Mussie ... one of the most improved runners in the state over the past year, going from 71st at the Washington State 4A Cross Country Championships as a junior to 9th at the 2010 meet as a senior, running 56-seconds faster over the same course ... carried those improvements over to the track, as he placed third at the Washington 4A State Championships at 1,600-meters and 3,200-meters in the first year he qualified for state ... also ran on the fourth-place 4x400m relay team at state ... named the South Puget Sound League track athlete of the year in 2011 after winning league titles at 1,600m, 3,200m, and the 4x4 relay ... ran a 3,200m PR of 9:04.03 in the 2011 state finals, over forty seconds faster his PR one year earlier ... was the runner-up at South Puget Sound League Sub-District cross country meet in fall of 2010 ... cut 13 seconds off his 1,600-meter PR from his sophomore to junior seasons on the track, and dropped another 11 seconds in his senior season ... played football in the fall of 2008, missing the cross country season ... the 2010-11 Federal Way HS Athlete of the Year ... graduated with a 3.68 GPA.
