2014: Capped a breakthrough season with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, earning First Team All-America honors and the top point-scorer distinction for all Huskies in 2014 ... at his first NCAA finals, he sat 18th with one throw left in the trials, but then uncorked a 232-foot, 4-inch throw to jump up to fifth-place, where he would remain to the end ... became the third Husky to score at NCAAs in the javelin in the last five years, along with Kyle Nielsen and Joe Zimmerman ... advanced to his first career NCAA final site after taking fourth in the West Prelims in Fayetteville, Ark. with a throw of 223-5 ... the runner-up at the Pac-12 Championships, throwing 231-6, his second time over 230-feet ... opened the season with a new career-best on his first attempt at the Trojan Invite, throwing 235-7 for the victory ... that PR ranks him eighth on the UW top-10 list ... won the UW-WSU Dual Meet with a best of 226-4 ... second at the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field with a best toss of 229-2 ... also threw 226-3 at the Stanford Invitational for second in the invitational section ... earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.
2013: Another strong season scoring at Pac-12s again in the javelin and advancing to the NCAA West Prelims … he placed sixth in the Pac-12 Championships at USC with a best toss of 213-2 … set a season-best in the first meet of the season, throwing 220-2 to take second at the Trojan Invitational … part of the UW top-four sweep of the UW-WSU Dual meet, as he was third with a mark of 218-7 … made his second straight West Prelims meet but had a tough day, with his shortest toss of the season at 209-11 to finish 24th out of the 48-athlete field … tossed 215-8 at the loaded Pepsi Team Invitational for sixth-place … a Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team selection … named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
2012: Excellent freshman season in the javelin as one of four Huskies to advance to the NCAA West Preliminary Championships ... fell just a couple spots short of advancing to the NCAA finals, as he placed 15th at the West Prelims with a throw of 215-feet, 1-inch ... the fourth-place finisher at the Pac-12 Championships as four Huskies scored, his best was 218-5 ... had a season's-best toss of 222-3 at the UW-WSU Dual meet, placing second, as the Huskies swept the top four spots ... that mark ranked 41st nationally and seventh among freshmen heading into Prelims ... opened his collegiate career with a big throw of 222-0 at the Pepsi Team Invitational, taking fifth ... earned All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA.
High School and Personal: Born in Tacoma, Washington ... parents are Julie and Jonathan Hale ... has one older sister, Alivia, who attends Washington currently ... father played college basketball at Briar Cliff University in Iowa ... one of the top javelin throwers nationally over the past two years ... ranked seventh nationally as a senior in 2011 with his best throw of 212-8 coming in a win at the Oregon Relays ... placed third at the 2011 U.S. Junior Championships with a toss of 208-1 ... also was sixth at the 2010 U.S. Junior meet with a mark of 202-6 ... placed fourth at the 4A state meet as a senior in a deep field, after placing second as a junior in 2010 ... ranked 18th nationally in the javelin in 2010 ... won consecutive Narrows League titles in 2010 and 2011, throwing 205-2 as a senior and 204-10 as a junior ... made state for the first time as a sophomore, placing 15th ... holds the Bellarmine javelin school record ... threw over 200 feet at seven local high school meets over the last two years ... also lettered in football in 2009.
