2014 First Team All-American (DMR)
2014 Drake Relays Champion (4x1600m)
2014 (Cross Country): Competed twice on the season, at the Washington Invitational and at the Wisconsin Invitational in the B-race … was ninth on the team at the Washington Invite, finishing 74th overall … was 63rd overall in the Wisconsin B-race … earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.
2013-14 (Track): A breakout redshirt freshman season on the track, as he put his name on the UW top-10 lists in both the mile indoors and the 1,500-meters outdoors and earned All-America honors on the distance medley relay indoors … outdoors, ran a 1,500-meters PR of 3:43.39 at the Bryan Clay Invite moving to ninth in school history … advanced to his first NCAA West Prelims at 1,500-meters, finishing 35th overall in 3:48.98 in the first round … was part of UW’s 4x1600-meter relay which won the title at the Drake Relays in 16:21.46, and also was part of the DMR that took second at Drake in 9:40.20 … second in the UW-WSU Dual in the 1,500m in 4:02.60 … placed 15th overall in the 1,500m prelims at Pac-12s … indoors, earned First Team All-America honors as the lead-off leg of Washington’s DMR which finished eighth at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque … set a PR in the mile of 4:01.72, eighth in school history, at the UW Invitational, finishing fifth … took 10th in the MPSF Championships in the mile in 4:06.28 … named a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention ... (Cross Country): Ran in the top-seven four times including competing at his first Pac-12 Championships … at the Pac-12 meet, was the sixth Husky finisher, taking 48th overall … also was sixth on the team at the Wisconsin Invitational, crossing the line in 166th-place … took 33rd at the Bill Dellinger Invite at Oregon, the No. 7 runner on the squad … opened the season with a 23rd-place finish at the Sundodger Invite, running 24:33 and finishing seventh on the squad … earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.
2012-13 (Track): Redshirted the season to preserve a year of eligibility … competed unattached three times during the outdoor season, all at 1,500-meters … had a very impressive 1,500m runner-up finish at the Ken Shannon Invite, clocking 3:49.60 ... (Cross Country): Redshirted the season, competing once unattached at the home Sundodger Invite, where he placed 49th in 26:16.
High School and Personal: Born in Edmonds, Washington ... parents are Kris and Craig Nelson ... has one older siste, Rylie ... a four-year standout at Jackson, reaching the Washington 4A track championships all four years with three top-five finishes in his career ... as a senior in 2012, placed fourth in the 800-meter state finals, running a lifetime-best 1:53.04 ... made state in the 800-meters all four years ... also qualified for state in the 1,600-meters as a senior and a junior, finishing fourth his junior year with a PR of 4:15.72 ... in addition to placing fourth in the 1,600m, he was the 4A state runner-up at 800-meters in 2011, and also took seventh in the 3,200-meter finals ... a three-time WesCo champion on the track ... ran at the state cross country championships three times, with a best finish of 12th as a junior in 2010, earning All-State honors.
