Doubles Teams Advance At ITA Northwest Regionals

STANFORD, Calif. -- The Washington women continued play at the ITA Northwest Regionals on Saturday with some more impressive results. Three doubles teams advanced to Sunday's Round of 16, while a pair of singles players won in the morning, before being knocked out in the evening Round of 16.

Washington was led by a pair of freshmen, including Grace Ysidora who advanced to the Round of 16 in singles. Ysidora knocked off Alice Duranteau of California, 6-4, 6-3 in the morning round of 32, before falling to eighth-seeded Ellen Tsay of Stanford, 6-3, 6-3 in the afternoon.

Elianne Douglas-Miron also advanced to the Round of 16 with a straight-set victory. She knocked off Stephanie Skaras of Santa Clara, 6-4, 6-0. However, the freshman's run ended there when she was ousted by Klara Fabikova of California, 6-0, 6-0.

Andjela Nemcevic also was still alive in the main draw on Saturday, but fell to Lynn Chi of California in the Round of 32. Chi won that match 6-2, 6-3.

In the consolation draw, Capucine Gregoire advanced to the Round of 64 with a win over Nicolette Wolny of Santa Clara. Gregoire advanced in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-4.

Three Dawgs came up short in the consolation round, including Julija Lukac who fell to Olga Musilovich of Washington State, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0. The others were Natali Coronel who was defeated by Sabastiani Leon Chao of San Jose State, 6-0, 6-1 and Brianna Kemp who fell to Kathryn Webb of Cal Poly, 6-0, 6-2.

Washington was highly successful in the doubles portion of the tournament with three teams advancing to the Round of 16.

Among those to advance were the team of Gregoire-Kemp who advanced to the Round of 16 with an 8-5 victory over Anne McPike and Kathryn Webb of Cal Poly.

Also advancing to the Round of 16 was the teams of Nemcevic-Shimizu and Coronel-Lukac. Those teams of Huskies knocked off Elizaveta Luzina and Erin Troedson of Washington State, 8-4 and Katie Edwards and Melanie Yates of Gonzaga, 8-6.

In contrast, the seventh-seeded team of Douglas-Miron-Ysidora was upset by Catherine Isip and Hannah Likekvist of St. Mary's, 8-4.

The Huskies will be back at in on Sunday with the three doubles teams looking to continue to move forward in the main draw. In addition, several Dawgs will continue to compete in the consolation rounds of the singles.
