TUCSON, Ariz. - History was made in Tucson, Ariz., Monday night. No. 17/17 Washington played its first-ever game live on the Pac-12 Networks, defeating No. 16/22 Arizona 8-3 to clinch the series, 2-1.
With the series victory, it was the first-ever series victory for Washington (24-8, 2-1) on the road vs. Arizona (21-10, 1-2). The Huskies last won the series against the Wildcats in Seattle in 2010.
It was also the fourth-straight year that the Huskies won their conference opening series.
Junior Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) earned the complete game victory, her 10th win of the season. She allowed three runs on nine hits and had seven strikeouts.
Freshman Missy Taukeiaho (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) hit her second home run in as many days, a solo shot in the first to give the Huskies the lead.
Home runs were also hit by junior Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) in the fourth and Inglesby, a two-run shot in the sixth.
Each team had nine hits and Washington was led by Inglesby and Hayward with three each.
The Huskies put up two more in the third on a double down the left field line by Inglesby and a run coming in on an Arizona error.
Washington also got two runs in the fifth on a double off the center field wall by senior Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.).
Arizona got on the board in the third on a Hallie Wilson solo home run to lead off the inning.
Lauren Young drove in the final two Arizona runs with a double in the fifth.
Washington will host Oregon in a three-game Pac-12 series beginning Thursday at 5 p.m.
