FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Christine Babcock returned to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships for the first time today since her freshman year in 2009, and ran her last indoor race as a Husky in the mile semifinals. At the Randal Tyson Track Center hosted by the University of Arkansas, Babcock placed seventh in her semifinal heat of the mile and 13th overall.

Babcock, from Irvine, Calif., will earn All-America Second Team honors for her finish in Fayetteville. She lowered her PR earlier this year to 4:37.57 in the mile, third-fastest in UW history, in order to make it to nationals.

Today, Babcock was running in the second of two eight-woman semifinal heats, with the top four advancing to the final automatically. She was at the front of the pack over the first couple laps, but fell to mid-pack, and then settled in about sixth-place for several more laps as the pack stayed tight. Once things started to string out, Babcock was unable to make up much ground on the leaders, and settled for seventh in the heat in a time of 4:41.55.

She'll look to carry the momentum from a strong indoor season out to the outdoor track, where she has one season remaining. The Huskies have one more event to go at NCAA Indoors, as senior Jeremy Taiwo competes in the high jump tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Pacific time. The high jump will be streamed live on arkansasrazorbacks.com.
