SEATTLE -- The Huskies continued at the PNW Intercollegiates on Saturday, having the most success in doubles. Washington had a doubles team advance to the semifinals in both the Pacific and Northwest draws.
In the Pacific Draw, the Dawgs' team of Emmett Egger and Max Manthou disposed of the Seattle U. team of Kosanke-Topp, 8-4, to move to Sunday's semifinal. The Husky team will face Clissold-Saru of Oregon at 10:30 a.m. for a spot in the final.
Also in that draw was the team of Viktor Farkas and Jeff Hawke, but they were eliminated after falling to Huwko-Micov of Portland. The duo from Portland had a big day as both advanced to the semis in singles as well.
In the Northwest Draw of doubles, the top seeded UW team of Marton Bots and Nicholas Kamisar defeated Bechmann-Risenhoover of Portland State, 8-2, to move to the semis. They will face Massland-Randriamampandria of Oregon at 10:30 a.m.
The Dawgs had less success in singles, although Jeff Hawke did advance in the Northwest Draw. Hawke defeated Kent Andreason of Portland, 6-4, 6-4. Later, Hawke fell to Brent Chin of Oregon in the semifinals.
In the Pacific Draw all three Huskies fell in the quarterfinals. Emmett Egger was upset by Michael Huwko of Portland, 7-5, 7-5 (4), while Max Manthou fell to Robin Cambier of Oregon, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Both Huwko and Cambier also won in the semis and will play for the title on Sunday.
Marton Bots also competed in the quarterfinals, but was forced to retire with an injury. Officially he fell to Daan Massland of Oregon, 6-3, 5-4 Ret. (inj.).
The final Husky to compete was Dragos Puscalau in the consolation round of the Northwest Draw. Puscalau won his match over Zach Lubek of Portland State, 7-6, 6-0, 10-5.
