ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The top six teams - including Washington - are all within five strokes of each other at the Ping-Golfweek Preview setting up for an exciting final round at the Capital City Club on Tuesday.

The sixth-ranked Huskies combined to shoot 2-over 282 in Monday's second round on the Crabapple Course and are tied for fifth at +11 overall.

UCLA leads the 15-team field at +6. UNLV is second at +7, followed by Georgia Tech and California at +9. New Mexico is tied with the Huskies at 11-over.

The Huskies were among the first teams off the tees on Monday and when they entered the clubhouse following their round, they found themselves tied for seventh. But, by the end of the day a rash of bogeys from several teams ahead of them moved them up the standings.

Husky Coach Matt Thurmond was pleased with how his team played after ending yesterday tied for eighth with a 9-over 289.

"The course didn't play quite as tough today," he said. "The wind didn't blow as much, but we still were really solid on the tough holes."

Senior Charlie Hughes and sophomore Cheng-Tsung Pan paced the way for the Dawgs by each firing 1-under 69 on the 7,248-yard course, which will play host to the 2012 NCAA Championship. Chris Williams, Trevor Simsby and Gerrit Chambers each shot 2-over 72.

"I felt like we played pretty well today," Thurmond said. "We played steady and all five guys were in it all day."

Pan and Williams are tied for eighth among the 75-man field. The All-Americans are both 1-over 141, five shots behind the leader, Tom Berry of San Diego State.

Berry shot 1-under 69 and is -4 overall. He holds a two-shot lead over Gavin Green of New Mexico. Cameron Peck of Texas A&M and Pedro Figueiredo of UCLA are the only other golfers under par at -1.

Hughes is tied for 20th, while Simsby and Chambers are tied for 43rd.

The collection of teams competing this week features 14 of Golfweek's preseason top-25 ranked squads. The tournament is held each year at the site of the NCAA Championship and invites many of the teams expected to contend for the national title at the end of the season.

The Huskies will tee off at 9:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday and will be paired with California and New Mexico.
