Ysidora Earns Big Win At USTA Collegiate Invitational

Portland, Ore. - The Washington women continued play from the USTA Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, including a big singles win from Grace Ysidora.

The Husky freshman earned her first win over a ranked opponent, knocking off Marianne Jodoin of Duke, 6-4, 6-3. Jodoin entered the match as the No. 27 ranked player in the country, while Ysidora is the No. 6 ranked freshman/newcomer.

Also competing in singles were three other Husky women, but each came up short against some top-notch competition. Julija Lukac was upended by Emina Bektas of Michigan, 6-1, 6-4. Bektas was the ninth-ranked player in the country.

Elianne Douglas-Miron was defeated 6-1, 6-3 by No. 46 Sun Wen of Texas A&M, 6-1, 6-3, while Andjela Nemcevic lost to Brooke Austin, USTA junior, 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles, the team of Lukac-Nemcevic earned a victory after beating the USTA junior team of Brady-Andrews, 8-5. Miron-Ysidora did not have as good a result, losing to Austin-Doyle of the USTA by the same score.

The Husky women will conclude the USTA Collegiate Invitational on Sunday. Ysidora will be back on the court in singles as she completes the Round Robin play.
