FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sticking to just one event this weekend due to a troublesome hamstring, Husky senior Jeremy Taiwo looked in good form and set himself up for a big outdoor campaign as he competed in the high jump today at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Taiwo registered the second seven-foot high jump of his career, but it was good for just 15th-place in the loaded field at the Randal Tyson Track.

The Renton, Wash. native had posted the best regular season heptathlon score in the country earlier this season, which would have qualified him for nationals in the multis, but a hamstring injury at the MPSF Championships forced Taiwo to compete only in the open high jump, in which he cleared 7-4 1/2 earlier this season.

That big high jump mark had been a huge PR by five inches. Until that point, Taiwo had never cleared seven-feet in the high jump. He got over that mark again today, clearing 7-0 1/2, but was unable to make 7-2 1/2 today. One of the best high jump fields in history, seven athletes jumped over 7-5 today, with Derek Drouin, the winner, jumping 7-8 1/2, one of the best marks in NCAA history.

Taiwo will earn All-America Second Team honors for the high jump effort. With the end of the indoor season, the next competition for the Husky track teams will be the Trojan Invitational in two weeks in Los Angeles on Mar. 22-23.
