Box Score

SEATTLE - A four-run fourth inning proved the difference as the Cal Poly baseball team beat Washington, 5-1, Sunday in final game of a three-game series at Husky Ballpark.

Poly starter Bryan Granger improved to 3-0 with the win, allowing one unearned run on three hits over five innings.

UW sophomore starter Tyler Davis (0-1) took the loss. In his three and two-thirds innings, he gave up five runs on five hits. Reliever Zach Wright worked three and one-third scoreless innings and Tyler Kane pitched the final two without allowing a run.

Cal Poly's Nick Torres, who drove in all six of the Mustangs runs in the two previous games on three homers, remained hot in the early-going Sunday. With Denver Chavez aboard in the top of the first, Torres knocked a two-out double into the left-field corner, driving in the runner to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Washington (3-8) drew even in the bottom of the first. Jayce Ray led off the inning by reaching on a third-strike passed ball. After a bunt and a single, Ray scored on a wild pitch, knotting the score at 1-1.

Cal Poly (9-1) went back on top in the fourth. With runners at first and second thanks to a walk and a hit batter, Chavez came through with a two-out single, driving in a run to make it 2-1. The RBI was the Mustangs' first of the weekend by someone other than Torres, who drove in their first seven.

After another walk loaded the bases, Jimmy Allen lined a double down the left-field line, clearing the bases to stretch the Cal Poly lead to 5-1.

In the ninth, the Huskies got two aboard with a two-out, pinch-hit double from Will Sparks and a single from Ray, but with the tying run on deck, Reed Reilly came on and got the final out to notch his fifth save of the season.

Washington got two hits, including a double, from Joe Meggs.

Washington closes out the four-game homestand on Tuesday when SeattleU visits Husky Ballpark for a 5:00 p.m. game. Next weekend, the Huskies travel to No. 9 LSU for a three-game series in Baton Rouge.
